Andalusian Horses – Andalusian World Cup

Andalusian Horses

Since the Andalusian World Cup is taking place in Las Vegas this week, (starting today,) I thought it was only right to post some photos of Andalusian Horses, to get in the right state of mind.

Their beauty, and intelligence captured my heart as a little girl. These photos are taken with an old fashion film (yes!) camera, six years ago, during a visit to a breeding facility in Eastern Spain.

ah3

The photos are not edited. You can see all the mud. It was spring time. Despite the mud, a trained eye can easily see that these horses are really nice horses.

I’ve never had an Andalusian Horse in my stable. They usually comes with a very high price-tag. I almost bought a 3 year old Lusitano (from Portugal) once. The reason why I didn’t in the end, was that he was a little too desensitized.

ah7

Who knows, maybe my next horse will be a beautiful Andalusian Horse?

I am very attracted to intelligence, in people, and in animals. These magnificent creatures are extremely intelligent. I’ve spent a lot of time observing them, during some of my childhood summers in Spain.

On another note, have you ever used a film camera? I mean, the kind were you develop the negatives to get your photos? I loved my old Hasselbladh, that my grandma gave me. Probably not the easiest camera to learn with, but I sure loved it.

Looking back at these photos I am getting excited about seeing some pretty horses this week. I am working a full week as well, but I am definitely going to make some time to enjoy the party.

Weekend Coffee Share -Valley of Fire State Park

c (1)

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)! Grab a cup of coffee and share with us! What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans? Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about? All are welcome!

It’s been a great week, and I am settling in to some kind of routine with everything. I really enjoy my new nanny job, the children are wonderful, and the parents are great people that I like a lot. How was your week? How would you like your coffee today?

I realize that I have not been posting as much as I usually do on my blog. It’s definitely not because of lack of content. On the contrary. I work more hours now. Even though I feel that I’m starting to come into a new routine with most things, I have been working less on my blog. I’m going to do something about that, because it’s important to me, and I’m going to try to stick to the writing schedule I have. Do you experience that sticking to your writing schedule is more challenging when there’s lot of changes going on in your life? For me writing helps to keep me grounded, and stay in the zen. Writing, and photography goes hand in hand. When I write something on my blog, I often re-live a wonderful event. Both while sharing some of the details in writing, and posting the photos to go with the story.

Atlatl Rock, at Valley of Fire State Park

I spent yesterday exploring Valley of Fire State Park. It’s 42 000 acres of incredible sandstone formations. Located 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas (NV.) Basically in my (new) backyard! It was pure magic! It was close to a Grand Canyon experience, if you’ve been there, you know what that means! It was an emotional experience, to the degree of bringing me to tears at times.

Petroglyphs at Atlatl Rock. The light conditions were very harsh. I will try to get some better photos of the petroglyphs during my next visit.

I went on several shorter (around 1 mile) hikes, to different points of interests in the park. I’ve only edited a few of the photos so far, and I’ll share the first ones with you today. I’ll post more during the coming week, as I have a chance to look at them. The light in the park, the colors, and the desert landscape was simply breath taking. It felt like something from another planet. The geology is most interesting. I saw hundreds of caves, and I’m sure there was thousands more hidden in the park. The rock formations are incredible, with the way the light plays on them, they sometimes look very harsh, and sometimes as they were soft to the touch.

Valley of Fire derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs, 150 million years ago. Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape.

My dog Gretchen resting in the shade.

Yesterday morning it was around 85 degrees when I arrived, and when I left it was 100+. There was extreme heat warning signs on some places (some of the longer hikes,) stating that hikes are not recommended at this time. I honored these signs, and only went for the shorter hikes. There will be plenty of times to go back, and explore to my hearts desire.

On some places the sand was deep, and it was quiet exhausting to hike. Still it was definitely worth it.

There’s natural caves everywhere.

The park has a couple campgrounds, and I am planning on trying them out. That’s the only way to experience the early morning, and late evening light, as the rest of the park is only open sunrise-sunset. Today, the day after, I still feel high on life after this incredible experience. If you get the chance, I can highly recommend a visit. If you have been there, I would love to hear about your experience 🙂

I hope you’re having a wonderful, amazing weekend! ❤

Sunday

The Carr Fire was 145,015 acres,  and 41% contained according to the last numbers from yesterday. I’m still wearing a mask outside, but besides that, I do not feel immediately threatened anymore. The fire have been moving towards the west side for about a week. There’s no longer any fire close to me. My bags are still packed, and I am ready to go if the wind changes.

How is your weekend so far? I went to school all day yesterday, and updated my Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certificate (AED education included.) It was a few years ago since I did it last time, and I like to have something that important fresh in my mind. When seconds matters to save a life, you can’t afford to hesitate. In the state of California there’s no law requiring a teacher to have CPR and First Aid Education! I think that is insane!! I could not imagine not having it. It was a great class, with wonderful teachers. I’d say that it was better than the last time I took it, at a different location.

There are a lot of things you don’t control in the world.  But one thing you always do:  you can change your perspective to how you can solve problems and add value for others.  Because then your prosperity is assured. (I don’t know who said this, but I read it at some point, and saved it in my “inspiration file”, and found it this morning.)

My daughter have recently expressed a desire to spend more time with her dad, and start school there. It has not been an option for her until now (she’s always lived with me.) I am raising a strong daughter, and I want to support her in any way I can. In reality it’s going to mean some major changes for me. Since her dad lives 11 hours away, close to Las Vegas. It’s a lot going on right now. I’ve been meditating over a solution to this for the past weeks. Without much success, until last night, when I realized that I’m going to have to relocate closer, to be able to have a close relationship with her. It’s the only option. I love my life, but I am pretty open minded, and I can be happy anywhere (as long as I get to spend a lot of time outdoors!) I can see myself being very happy working with children again, or in the countryside helping someone with their animals/ horses. I’m going to see what doors the universe is going to open for me. I don’t know exactly what the next few weeks are going to have in store for me, I do know that in the end something good is going to come out of it. I know my priorities. I have many things that I love, and are very happy spending my time doing. I got that going for me 😉

I am going to have to find new homes for my two horses. It’s not realistic to bring them. Even though I would of loved to. I am definitely bringing my best friend Gretchen.
