Mindful exploring, through the eyes of a viking daughter.
Maria is a teacher, minimalist, avid gardener, explorer, photographer, author, blogger, and crazy horse girl! She just returned home to Sweden after 8 years in the US. She grew up in the mountains of northern Sweden, outside a ski resort. For a while in the 90’s she seriously thought about becoming a snowboard PRO, but she decided to follow one of her other passions. She became a baker and worked as a baker for 9 years until she decided to go back to school, to become a teacher. Maria has a BA in Early Childhood Education. She has enjoyed being a kindergarten teacher, preschool teacher, nanny, 4H leader, tutor, and horseback riding instructor.
Thanks to her grandma Agnes, she entered the magic world of photography when she was five years old. Maria’s gypsy soul has taken her to 48 US States, and most countries in Europe. You can find prints of Maria’s best photos in her gallery. She loves horses. At one time she had 17 rescue horses in her pasture. Observing wild horses in the wild is one of her favorite activities, camera in hand of course. In 2013 she published a book with some of her observations. In November 2019 she published her second book The Desert Around Las Vegas – A Guidebook To Amazing Day Trips In The Mojave Desert. You can follow her adventures, projects, and photography via her blog.
My mission is to share zen strategies; and encourage a healthy lifestyle, with a close connection to nature and animals, using my photos and stories as the medium for inspiration. – Maria Jansson

What a lovely site. Your dog and horse are gorgeous, and the waterfall photo is tranquil and peaceful.

Aren’t you the sweetest! Some comments get away from me as well! So not to worry! 🤗

Awe good, that makes me feel better. I always go to the “about page” of a new blog first. I find them most interesting. Then I discovered today that I missed several comments on my own about page… that’s not good. I’m going to work hard on keeping better track on comments. Interacting with other bloggers is something I enjoy very much.

Thank you Brad! Life changes 🙂 I moved so that my daughter would be able to get to know her biological father. I never could imagine myself living in a city, and definitely not Las Vegas. The close proximity to amazing nature is my savior. Thank you for dropping by. I hope you’re having an amazing weekend.

Maria, there’s an enormous amount to like about the L.V. area. Even for us daytrippers, the Red Rocks never get old, but I’d love to have the opportunity to explore more widely into the desert, the Great Basin, etc. Enjoy!

Yes 😊 I’m discovering that more and more. I only live 20 min from the Red Rocks. I really like that. We went to Valley of Fire last weekend. Amazing! 🙏

I’ve only seen Valley of Fire once, and just as a drive-through. Haven’t gotten out to hike, nor have we seen it in different lighting. It would be beautiful in early morning or late afternoon light. So long as you’re good for the heat, you have an enormous amount to explore.

I love your site – thank you for following my blog. It’s not very “wordy” – it’s mainly about the photos I post. Right now I’m (hopefully ) completing a 365 project so those are the majority of photos I post. I look forward to your posts
