Weekend Coffee Share – Winter Is Coming

The coffee is excellent today, can I offer you a cup? Or perhaps some tea? It is cold and beautiful outside, and I have to say it is good to be alive! Everyone is happy and healthy. It’s a great week. Work had the right level of challenges to make it interesting, my colleagues were fabulous as usual. In Sweden the kids are enjoying a fall-break next week, and we decided to celebrate Halloween all week this week so that they (the kids that are fortunate to be at home with their families next week, some kids still have to attend school, if their parents work,) wouldn’t miss the celebrations. We made tons of Halloween crafts, decorated the school, organised a Halloween Dance (the kids could choose to dress up in Halloween costumes,) we watched a Halloween movie, we did a Halloween walk in the woods with tricky Halloween questions, and had a visit from a famous host of a Swedish Children’s TV show (a colleague dressed up as him hosting a “show” with the kids at our department. They thought it was the real deal, and it was pretty scary, but not too scary.) I am very pleased with how our work week turned out.

We also had our first snow on Tuesday, that is always magical. That snow is gone, but now it is colder again and it is snowing. I LOVE SNOW! I purchased new winter boots this week, so I am ready to conquer the cold.

As of now the snow is slowly falling outside my window. I do admit that I only went outside to take the photo at the top, I am enjoying my coffee inside with a warm oat ciabatta straight out of the oven.

It’s looking to be a great day today. If we were having coffee I’d give you the choice of an oat ciabatta, or Swedish Halloween candy as a side.

Can I tempt you with some eyeballs? A spider? Or maybe a finger?

I am planning on taking a long walk shortly, and spend the rest of the day reading, and hanging out with my daughter. I’m currently reading The Conqueror series, a series of novels by Conn Iggulden about Genghis Khan and his successors, set during the time of the Mongol conquest of the 12th and 13th centuries. Have you read the series? I’m reading the second book, and I really enjoy the series so far.

I don’t have any news about a new apartment to share…yet..stay tuned. Tell me about your week! What’s the weather like? Any fun plans for the weekend?

Love,

Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. I entered the magic world of photography when I was five years old. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I believe that you are what you eat, body and soul. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. Above everything else is my daughter. A Sagittarius loves to travel, have an open mind and, and a philosophical view. It motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life. Sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. A lot of that perfectly describes me. The fact that my ancestors, on both parents sides, were vikings, doesn’t exactly lessen my desire to explore. Maybe a slightly more mindful exploring, compared to the average viking. My blog, and my art prints is a results of my (inner and outer) explorations. Love, Maria

  1. Good Morning Maria! It sounds like the two of you had a great week! Having my coffee here to and contemplating the coming weekend. No bars or candies with my first morning coffee but thinking about making a pumpkin pie later. The Instant Pot makes pumpkins pie filling from pumpkins in 30 minutes. We still have some left after taking 15 small ones to Nora’s pre-school for the students and 3 large ones for the teachers. Tonight there is an organised “Fright Hike” at the state park near here. Nora can’t wait. Well, enjoy your coffee and weekend, I’m sure we will! Take Care, Nora & Greg

    1. I wish for the cold weather to stay, it’s more pleasant when it is consistent, and not rain every other day, and snow every other day. I hope you get your 60 degree weather 🙂 Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and new week to come.

  3. Walking in snow is magical! When does your ground freeze and snow stays on the ground?
We’re having a warm spell this week with temps in the 60s and a couple days were low 70s. We’re back to cool weather tomorrow in the 50s. Nice while it lasts, I have laundry out hanging today. Not too many more laundry days once it gets too cool to dry in a day, indoor racks will be put to use.
I’ll be planting the last of my spring bulbs today. It’ll be nice to get that done. This past week I helped my client with a crew clean up the fallen trees and damage to her gardens. Did I tell you about that last week? A lot of work, but it is satisfying that her rare perennial woodland garden is now clear of debris and logs. The tree guys were very responsive to the sensitive areas once I explained how special it was. The work will continue this week, but the most important part is done.
    Have a great week ahead!

    1. I’m glad the major part of the clean-up at your clients place is taken cared of successfully. It must be nice to plant spring bulbs and start looking forward to seeing them 🙂 That is believing in the future!
The ground here could freeze for the winter any day, but last year was record warm, I certainly hope that was just a one time thing. I believe next week is going to be rather warm, hopefully that changes soon. Yesterday morning it was 20F when I woke up. Today it was in the upper 30’s. My little sister that lives a few hours north of me (where I grew up) already have lots of snow. Have a fabulous new week ❤

  4. Hi Maria,

As a long time bread baker, I’d cherish the chance to try your oat ciabatta. I love the taste it brings to a basic bread recipe. Work has been keeping me busy so I’ve gotten very little reading done and almost no writing other than story plans knocking around in my head. I’ve progressed my plan to expand my Ayem Notthymn story, but no enough words have made it to a printable page.

I did finally get fed up with the new WP editor and switched to MS Word because I know it and it will copy over just fine with simple copy and paste. If there were snow around to walk in and play with, I might not have gotten even that much done.

Hope you have an even better week coming your way.

    1. Oat ciabatta is coming right up. As I write this it’s Sunday, and I could offer you some vegetable soup to go with that, if you’d like?
Looking forward ot read what you have written in your story, when it is ready. Have a great new week!

      1. Hi, Maria, sorry so short yesterday. It’s raining here again today. I’m walking again, though probably next week before I get foot into a real shoe. Can’t keep me down long. Made a batch of apple butter yesterday. Sat on a stool in front of stove, tablet in hand, stirred every few minutes and read an entire novel.

          1. I checked out some Amish Romance stories put out by the “Love Inspired” dept of Harlequin. I just wanted something light that didn’t take a lot of thought, and “clean” as in no beasts, witches, etc. Life’s scary enough right now. Also, I have my own writings from decades ago that I’m rereading right now, too.

  6. Those boots are so cool! And I’m sure a great addition to your winter clothes you need. Ciabatta bread sounds wonderful, I’m going to share my surprise tomorrow in my coffee share, something I’ve been working on and waiting on for the last 2 weeks! 😍 Thanks so much for the coffee!! ❤️

  7. We have had snow here, also, but are looking forward to high temperatures above freezing for two or three days, next week. Is fun to read about the Halloween and other holiday celebrations and workarounds. I hope that all goes well. We have no plans for the week. Al is going to the car dealership, tomorrow, to have four new tires put on the car. Planned to do that before winter. We did NOT expect winter only a month into autumn. So, an “emergency” appointment to get it done.

    1. Exciting exciting, I have seen your snow photos. I understand why winter tires are necessary. My feet are my main means of transportation, along with bus rides every now and then, so I kind of changed to “winter tires” already with my new boots 🙂 Have a great new week!

  8. Yum! Thanks for the hot tea and goodies. I miss winter and the snow but I can’t really be out there too long. My last winter was in Japan in 2017 to which Im writing about it just this year. I spent my first white Christmas in Chicago in 2012 with family and that was memorable. I love winter, though, it makes me feel so cozy and warm (despite the cold) and the food is just great especially associating it with the Holidays. Hopefully, when this pandemic is over, ill take that chance to travel somewhere cold. Have a great week ahead.

    1. I do hope you get to experience a real white Christmas soon. Winter is cozy, it’s like the whole world is in a blanket, and then all the cozy layers of clothing on top of that, YES I love it! Thank you for stopping by 🙂 Have a great new week!

  9. Sounds like you are set for the season, Maria. You probably remember that Fall can get a slow start here in NorCal. Very few fall leaves yet. We drove a UHaul to Spokane last week and left just in time to miss the major winter storm that hit Spokane and Idaho areas. Was record breaking snowfall. Enjoy your Halloween 🎃

    1. Yes, fall in California is beautiful for a loooong time 🙂 I did see you photos from Spokane on Instagram. Only a couple months left before the big move? I can imagine it being very exciting!! How does it feel to leave your work?
      Have a wonderful new week.

      1. We’re down to a few weeks before the move north. Hans is happy to leave work with a small pension. I have mine and it’s a healthy amount, so I’m OK to move on from teaching since everything is still online. I plan to finish my book in 2021 so that will keep me busy!

  10. Maria, Wow, you’ve got the first snow already. Sounds like you’re all set for the winter. We still have Fall weather here for now. I’d like to try your oat ciabatta. Thank you for the coffee share. Have a fun Halloween!

    1. One oat ciabatta and coffee coming right up 🙂 We had the first, and second snow, but today the last snow melted away. Looks like next week is going to be warm, but I’m hoping the cold will come for real soon. I like a lot of snow. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Have a great new week!

  11. I love your Halloween candy! Very clever. We are doing a “Virtual Halloween Party” with our students this Wednesday. They can dress in costume and we will do some games and share a snack that we sent home last week. I wish we could do an inperson party like we usually do but maybe next year. We have had very mild weather here this week. Today was actually cold enough to finally turn on the heat. I can’t imagine snow already, although I have a friend who lives in North Dakota and she posted that they had their first snow as well. Thanks for the coffee. Have a great week.

    1. A virtual Halloween party sounds like a great idea! I doubt very many people are going Trick and Treating like usual this year. We are going to steal the idea of an indoor Halloween Candy Treasure Hunt, accompanied by pumpkin carving all day Saturday. Enjoy your week!

  13. Oooh, Halloween all week, after my own heart!! What fun! The candy and the ciabatta look delicious! And yay for snow, I’m actually really looking forward to it this year, as we upgraded our snowmobiles.. I’m also in the market for boots! My old hiking boots gave up the ghost this weekend..

    1. Yes, it’s been a lot of Halloween, and we are not even at the real Halloween yet! I’ve been working on clues for the treasure hunt today.
If you are planning on spending a lot of time in the snow, I can highly recommend the boots I got, Sorel Caribou. They’ve been around forever, the last many years, and will keep you warm and dry to -40. I hope you get lots of snow and fun with your snowmobiles.
