Weekend Coffee Share; Gratitude – Fabulous Fall

Welcome to the Weekend Coffee Share, I’m savouring a cup of dark, black coffee from my French press, curled up in my living room couch. The house is quiet, except for the old clock on the wall. It is dark outside my window, and currently around 40F, we are expecting a high in the lower 60’s today. Please join me for a cup of coffee, or tea, and a conversation.

Early morning is my time. In fact usually the only me-time I get. When I opened my computer to write a little this morning it was barely 4.30am, the time I have been getting up the past two days  (I have different schedule at work different days.) I would never have to get up this early, but I want to. I want to have time for yoga, reading, and to enjoy coffee in peace when I start my day. A mindful start of the day makes all the difference. I do not think that an ordinary day in my life is stressful, but it is definitely filled with activities and in person encounters that requires 100% of me, both at work and at home with my girl. I take good care of myself to be able to live this active life; sleep, healthy food, exercise, time in nature, fuel for my brain, and most importantly – quality time with my daughter every day. Health-wise I am doing great right now. I feel good. The clean air have done wonders for me. I am almost back to pre-California fires and dirty Las Vegas air. I am still very sensitive to strong scents, and chemicals, but I’ve learned to handle it, I’ve excluded it completely from my day-to-day life, and I have a strategy to deal with it in encounters with others. What is going on in your life? Tell me about the kindness you’ve met this week. Is there anything in particular that you are extra grateful for at the moment?

On Thursday at lunch time, a 5 year old girl asked me how old I am. I answered her, and told her that I am 40 years old. She then said that I had to tell her about the 40 things in my life the I love the most. ..and she waited, by now I had the attention of all five children sitting at my lunch table. It actually was not very hard to think of 40 things that I love within the attention span of the children, probably 2-3 minutes. (That made me feel really good afterwards, and I meditated about that later at night.) Naturally I let the girl who asked the question, and the other children at my lunch table take turns in telling me, about what they love the most in their life. It was one of those amazing spontaneous conversations that you’ll always remember. It is a wonderful group of children I work with this year. I am excited about going to work every day. It feels like we got off to a great start this semester.

Earlier this week I brought my camera with me one morning, and while I was waiting for a bus I took some photos of the canal that runs through my town.

Do you need a refill on that coffee? Or tea? My daughter asked me last night if we could stay at home at least all Saturday, or preferably the whole weekend. She usually prefers staying at home, and maybe have a playdate sometime during the weekend. I got off early yesterday, and when I picked her up from school, I also picked one of her friends up. So she might feel content in the playdate area right now…that might change over the weekend of course. I asked my daughter earlier this week if she would like to take a trip to the mountains this weekend, and do a short hike to a majestic waterfall, it’s about 2 hours from here. I was thinking about maybe renting a cabin for a night. She didn’t want to this time, but I am hoping to do it within the next month. It should be amazingly beautiful right now, maybe even more so in a couple weeks when the leaves starting to change colors. It’s on my bucket list to visit Njupeskär

I scored a great new winter jacket for my daughter yesterday. A sport store in town that carry good quality clothing had last years jackets on sale for less than half the price. I’m a minimalist, and I do not do a lot of shopping, but I prefer good quality on the things I do buy. My daughter really needed a new winter jacket, and it was on my list to find a good one for her. It made me very happy when I did. We’ve already looked online and decided together what model she needs. I found one just like that, a model that looks good on her, and is water and wind proof. She will be able to wear it to school, and it will keep her warm and dry during all the winter activities I am hoping we will enjoy this winter. In this weather good outdoor clothing is essential, and it is rather expensive. I still need to find her new snow pants, but there is time for that. She has rain/wind pants for the fall, and won’t be needing snow pants yet.

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? I’m going to enjoy doing things around the house. I usually clean the house roof-floor on Friday afternoons, but since my daughter had a playdate yesterday I didn’t. I will do that this morning. I live in a small house and it is not a daunting task. I rather like it, making small talk with my daughter, or listening to music (if she’s busy) while I’m at it. My daughter and I are going to re-pot some outdoor plants, pick cucumbers and make pickles, and I am sure we’ll walk to the lake a few times. I don’t have any work I need to do this weekend, everything is set for next week 🙂 I like that feeling. I hope this weekends turns out to be everything you want it to be, and more.

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. I entered the magic world of photography when I was five years old. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I believe that you are what you eat, body and soul. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. A Sagittarius loves to travel, have an open mind and, and a philosophical view. It motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life. Sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. A lot of that perfectly describes me. The fact that my ancestors, on both parents sides, were vikings, doesn’t exactly lessen my desire to explore. Maybe a slightly more mindful exploring, compared to the average viking. My blog, and my art prints is a results of my (inner and outer) explorations. Love, Maria

  1. What a wonderful coffee share this weekend. I always love catching up with how your week went and I’m so happy you get some me time before your day starts!! I love the photos you shared, such a beautiful city or town. Glad to hear your health is back, that’s important too!! I hope you have a great weekend and week ahead! ❤️
P.S. loved the children’s question you shared about your age and how that conversation took place. Children are so inquisitive and precious, aren’t they? 😀

  2. Hi – sounds like you have a nice cleaning schedule and routine – congrats on the jacket find – love when that happens – and I smiled to think of the 40 things you shared 🙂
I had something nice happen – a lady gave me a pack of masks to share with students – and then another lady – different day – came and got my spouse and I when we were waiting for something – such kind people 🙂

    1. Thank you for sharing the kindness you met this week. I think we all should share these positive every day things that happens to us, and then the world would become a little better every time we do. Thank you for having coffee with me today 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!

  3. I love the question you were asked. Kids are the best with their innocent way of thinking! Thank you for sharing that it brought a smile to my face. My weekend plans involve reading, writing, quilting and hanging out with my boys. Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for the virtual cup of coffee.

  4. It is nice to anticipate the coming fall and winter, and getting prepared is always worth the effort. I love when we find deals on essential items. I just ordered some new garden shoes for work that were half-price (yes!) which makes me happy. I’d been procrastinating all summer, but it was worth the wait as I got a good deal.
The weather here yesterday, today and tomorrow is September-perfect: dry, sunny, 70s. LOVE this kind of weather. It will return to hot/humid on Tues. for the rest of the week, so I’m making sure to enjoy this singular weather. The nights cool off nicely for sleeping. We’ve even had to start closing some windows at night, but at least in the day they are wide open. I really don’t like having to close them at all, but needs must!
    Have a great week ahead.

    1. That is so awesome Eliza, with the current weather, and the deal on your gardening shoes! I hope you love your new shoes! Enjoy the weather. I really enjoy cool nights. It rained here yesterday, and I cleaned out almost all the remaining plants in my container garden. I left three big tomato plants with hundreds of green tomatoes on them. I got a special fabric (from a kind neighbour) to protect them from the cool temps and hopefully give them a chance to mature. My fig trees are strangely enough still in a growing mood, when they drop their leaves I will put them in “blankets” in a protected corner of my porch. Lots of love to you.

  5. what great stuff Maria! I too have a list of stuff I’m thankful for called out in my coffee share this week. We are so blessed. I do envy the life you’ve carved out in many ways. I also love the idea of having to share your age-number of things you are thankful for with a child. That had to be an amazing conversation. Well Done my friend.

    1. Thank you Gary! I will come over for coffee in a little bit. The daily conversations with the children at work gives me so much joy. Thank you for your kind comment. I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend.

  6. Love the waterfall. Looks like an awesome place to visit! I’ve gotten through the bulk of my weekend, now, with another Artist’s Way workshop session and a two-hour meet-up including 40-minute co-working sprints, also Zoom. Looking forward to meeting for worship on Sunday (also on Zoom) and no other commitments. Supposedly, there will be rain on Labor Day, but we had made no plans for the holiday weekend.

Wonderful, finding just the winter jacket you and your daughter were looking for! Having the right clothes for the weather is crucial. That being said, I confess that I love winter much more than the summers. Best wishes for your week, Maria!

    1. Thank you Lizl! I too love winter more than the summer! I grew up in the mountains with lots of snow, and I loved it. I am looking forward to explore more of our Swedish National Parks now as an adult, since I have not visit any of them lately. I am sure the experience will be a lot different. It sounds like you are having a great week and weekend. Technology have been a great blessing during the pandemic. ❤

  7. I used to be a morning person-when I worked as a postman I used to be up at 4.00am every day. On my days off I’d be up around 6.00am to read before the children descended! These days I tend to be up before 8.00am, but I think I’ve now become more of a night person, staying up and preferring the quiet times the early hours bring. I think if I lived alone I might even be nocturnal! No chance of that with kids, though.

    1. Haha, yes, life is interesting how our habits are somewhat shape by our surroundings. In my late teens I delivered newspapers in the mornings, then I became a baker…and had horses = turned me into a morning person. I hope you are enjoying your weekend Andy.

  8. I’m so happy you feel healthy right now and almost back to pre-Caloifornia and Las Vegas condition breathing-wise. I really need to incorporate more yoga and mindfulness into my day too. That would certainly help.

I do hope you’ll be able to do the hike to the waterfall someday soon.
