Weekend Coffee Share – Let The Staycation Begin!

Welcome, step up on my porch and pour yourself a cup of that black gold, or let me get you some ice tea from the fridge. What do you prefer today?

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)! Grab a cup of coffee and share with us!  What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans?  Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about?

I took the new photo at the top a few minutes ago. This is where I am sitting writing this post right now. I love my porch, it’s an extra room. We eat dinner here almost every night, I like reading out here, and we play chess and cards out here, we grow our kitchen herbs here, and we even hang laundry here. In the winter we always store firewood for a couple days here, the rest of the firewood is in the woodshed, but it is so convenient to store some at the porch. In the summer the “firewood shelf” double as a place to put our shoes. I feel relaxed out on the porch. I love listening to the wind blowing in the trees that are surrounding us (oaks, aspens, birch, pine, lilac, and elm among others.) There is often at least a breeze up here on the little hill I live on. The main colour you can see looking out is green. It is very green right now. Are you comfortable? I love this weather, 78-80F it is perfect here in the shade.

What is going on in your world? I just worked my last day before the summer today. It was emotional saying goodbye to the children, especially since I knew that I won’t see most of them in the fall. My kitchen is now covered with sweet cards, drawings, chocolate and flowers from my little students. My 7 week long staycation begins now. I don’t even feel sad for not going to Iceland like I had planned. I feel happy and satisfied. I’m going to enjoy just being. We are still very much in the shadow of Covid-19, with 4854 deaths so far. We are allowed to travel within Sweden now, previously we could only travel 1-2 hours from our home, no longer. We are allowed to travel in the whole country now, but I am not planning on doing any longer trips. The virus is still very much present. We are happy here, and there is so much we can do close to home. Giving my daughter everything she needs is at the top of my list, other than that I am going to explore nature, and play with my new camera. Perhaps I’ll combine all three of this some days 🙂 Please tell me about what’s new in your life this week in a comment.

Have a fabulous weekend!

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. I entered the magic world of photography when I was five years old. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I believe that you are what you eat, body and soul. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. Above everything else is my daughter. A Sagittarius loves to travel, have an open mind and, and a philosophical view. It motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life. Sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. A lot of that perfectly describes me. The fact that my ancestors, on both parents sides, were vikings, doesn’t exactly lessen my desire to explore. Maybe a slightly more mindful exploring, compared to the average viking. My blog, and my art prints is a results of my (inner and outer) explorations. Love, Maria

  1. I love the sound of your welcoming, relaxing, fun productive little porch. The new thing in our life is like yours as travel restrictions slowly being lifted within our country we are still being cautious & I have almost finished the goat enclosure & Mum & I bought a raspberry vine/bush, rhubarb & strawberry plants. Such fun. Have a wonderful well deserved break with your little treasure & may it include many happy porch moments.

    1. Thank you! I believe it is wise to keep on the cautious side. You expanding your garden sounds so wonderful. Plants that keep on giving year after year are the best 🙂 I see plants as an investment for the future. In fact I see all time spent gardening and learning as an investment for the future. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

  2. Thank you for the coffee and I absolutely love your porch, so cozy and the views amazing as you described them to us! I’m so thankful my super long work week is now over. Wish I had 7 weeks off!! I just have 2 days off, then back to work again. But at least I’m done covering vacation for now! Those little ones sound so FUN, I can imagine how hard it is to say goodbye. But before long you’ll have a new group! Can’t wait to see what you’ll be doing on your staycation with your new camera! 📷 😀❤️

    1. I believe you would have enjoyed sitting here having a coffee chat. We’ll have that when you visit 😉
I’m so grateful for my new position that is going to give me long summer breaks and extra time off at Christmas. That is very valuable to me. I was talking to my daughter about our blessings the other day and told her that I have not had 7 weeks off in the summer since I was 14. That was more than she could take in. I am excited about the new group that I am going to have this fall, and I see this summer as a way to get the extra energy I know I will be needing. I will read some new research and teaching related material as we get closer to the start of the new semester. I know most of the children a little bit already and it is going to be an energetic group, demanding new challenges and more guidance than the group I’ve had now (naturally since these children are younger. Some of the new children will turn 4 this summer. My new class is going to have 29 little students.)

Capturing natures beauty with my camera is going to be one of my highlights this summer. With a camera in my hand I slow down and the experience gets more intense somehow.

Enjoy your weekend my friend ❤

      1. I can’t wait to come visit!! One day I’ll be sitting on your porch with you! And you do make a great point, that when you stop and take in the moment and think this will be a good photo you definitely slow down and get more out of that experience!! Most excellent! ❤️❤️❤️

  3. It is always lovely to be at the start of a new vacation… the freedom of choosing your day according to your whim is a fine thing. Relax, let stresses go, ah!
It has been another busy week for me, but not as stressful as previous ones as the work load is finally easing up. Plus we got 1/2″ of rain yesterday, not a lot, but enough to help the stressed plants. Last Sat. I got my flower seeds finally planted and they are already up – yay! Zinnias for the butterflies and I’ll use a few stems for my floral arrangements. 🙂
Even though states here are reopening, cases are surging again, which is so discouraging. I think it will be a long haul before we get past this and are able to live freely again. I think your staycation is a very smart move.
    Stay well and have fun!

    1. Exactly Eliza, sometimes we need to let go. I think most of us are on pretty tight schedules. Relaxation is very much needed. I often feel guilty about my daughter having long days, I do spend all my free time with her, but still. This summer she gets to be a child. That is a wonderful thing to me.
Can’t wait to see more of your flowers ! Thank you or your kind comment, and enjoy your weekend. ❤

  4. I’m envious of your beautiful useful porch. Our front porch is small and we sit out there often but there is no room to eat and our larger deck out back is wonderful early in the day but it has no
cover so the afternoon sun is brutal. We are looking into a gazebo to make it more useful like your porch. I finished school this week too. It was a sad event. Enjoy your time at home. I think your free time ideas sound very nice.

    1. Thank you Nancy. I have never had a porch that I’ve used as much as this one. I don’t know why I haven’t realised the value of a good porch before? Maybe I am more at peace sitting still doing things now than before? I love gazebo, that sounds like a wonderful idea for you.
Enjoy your summer. Are you having time off as well, now when schools out?

  5. The porch sounds great and very useful. Now that your vacation has started, I hope you get out into the nice weather! And, yeah, getting out in nature as you continue to acclimate your daughter to your homeland and take photos with your new camera sounds perfect.

    1. Yes, both my daughter and I are enjoying the weather. She has some trouble with pollen, but we are trying out a new medicine, and I’m hoping we’ll get back out there in a few days. For now just fixing around the house is perfect. I’m teaching myself (with some help of Youtube) how to use a scythe.

  6. Hi Maria,
I think the death toll here in the U.K., including the deaths not accounted for in the ‘official’ list, is over the 50,000 mark.
Though it seems a degree of normality is returning: all shops that can adhere to the distancing requirements are reopening tomorrow. The kids have rediscovered Burger King and Costa, etc, open for delivery and take out only, and football is coming back to the tv, albeit without crowds. So things are returning, though still not ‘normal’.

  7. Hi Maria, The porch sounds lovely and useful. It lets the outdoors in without too much exposure. Here school is still on until June 24 then summer break until September 8 so ten weeks for teachers and students to relax unless they want to do summer school. Have a wonderful staycation with your daughter! #weekendcoffeeshare

    1. Thank you Natalie. Ten lovely weeks, sounds amazing. My daughter have close to ten weeks as well, I need to prepare things before the new school year begins, so I start a little earlier. I hope you are enjoying summer 🙂

    1. Ooo hot coffee it is, coming right up! Yes, when the temperature is right, it is lovely to write on the porch, or read 🙂 Right now it’s too hot! It was wonderful earlier today, and it will be again in a couple hours. I hope things are peaceful in your corner of the world.

  8. Staying at home is how I spend my summers off. It is a time to recharge and just enjoy the warm days. Your porch sounds great and that is where I would spend most of my time too.
