Hi, how are you? Last weekend almost feels like a lifetime ago, in a way. Is it totally crazy where you live? I am sure you need some coffee! Or is it a tequila day? Here the crowd is divided, some are hoarding toilet paper and toothpaste, and some go out to afterwork to have beers with their friends. The schools are open, (with a few exceptions.) I’ve been working all week as usual, even had some education myself on Monday (quality self evaluation of the school.) Still Corona is classified as the biggest threat to Sweden in decades. One person have been diagnosed with the Corona virus in my town, and several in my region. We are urged to limit social contacts.
I’m not panicking in any way, but of course this is worrisome. Maybe not knowing how this will affect us, and society as we know it, is the worst? What is your two cents about the situation? Are you taking any precautions? Are you prepared?
The song Getting Down On The Mountain by Corb Lund comes to my mind. I’m not the prepper I once was, but surely I have seeds for a big garden, if the situation demands. The surrounding forests are full of food as well, and there is water in abundance all around. I’m sure every one will experience some hardships, the question is how much? And for how long? As always, I believe that keeping ones spirit high, and staying strong is critical. I’m definitely going to do everything I can to make life “normal” for my daughter, whatever happens. Luckily normal have been living in many different ways during my daughter’s first years; off grid in the desert, living on a (few) ranch(es,) living in an RV, living ten minutes from the strip in Las Vegas, and now in a tiny house in the outskirts of the outskirts of a middle-sized town in Sweden. She’s pretty flexible, so am I.
Do you need a refill of your coffee? I feel that we are doing good. I am good..but still, this is one of those times when it sure would of been nice with a strong, good man by my side. One that doesn’t walk away when things get a little hard, someone else to count on besides me. LOL. I hope that you are doing good! Keep calm, and be strong my friend. Thank you for having coffee with me today.
Love,
Maria
Yes, it is worrisome. While my spouse and I are of the age category most likely to have problems, we are healthy and have good immune systems, plus being retired, have limited exposure to the outdoor world. I’m trying to stay positive, figuring there is a 50/50 chance of getting the virus, so why not think I will be of the 50% that doesn’t get it? 😉 If we aren’t lucky, there is an 80% chance that it will be a mild case. So I’m banking on the best outcome, what do I have to lose? 🙂
Hope you continue to do well, chins up – hugs to you both!

That is a great way to view this challenge! If it’s possible for you to not see a lot of people that would surely help you. Big hugs from across the Atlantic. ❤

It’s all that you see in the news and rightly so I suppose. I’m trying to not get worried, wash hands, and keep staying positive. My heart goes out to you as it would be I think much more difficult alone. To have to be the one to keep up that smile and to stay strong for your daughter which I know you’ll do, and do just fine, I totally agree with you a nice strong man would be nice!! I pray for all that if spread occurs widely, it will be mild with few deaths. 🙏 Stay strong my friend, praying we all come through this stronger than before. ❤️

Thank you for your kind comment. I pray we all will get stronger before it’s over. I enjoy seeing your horses play in the rian. It is awesome that California gets rain!! Something good 🙂

We’re doing all that is recommended especially since my husband’s immune system is compromised. Stay well (and wash your hands)!!

That is probably very wise. I don’t know the exact recommendation you have, here it’s washing your hands, staying at home when having any symptoms, and avoiding unnecessary social contacts.

About the same here although it changes day by day as cases increase in the US

I am resting in inner peace and flexibility. Knowing that I am not in control of the externals of life, and doing the best I can with whatever comes to pass. Things are still calm, here, in that things are shutting down in an orderly fashion. Calmness, as I have observed things so far. It will be interesting to watch. Best wishes to you two and your family members elsewhere.

I am not panicked either but they did cancel my school for 3 weeks. My corporation didn’t really want to but the governor made an announcement. I am grateful for the gift of time.

It is best to stay calm – and it seems that you have got that part right. And then live in a way that will protect yourself and your daughter. I know my hads are beginning to feel dry with the amount of times I have washed them 🙂

Staying calm is crucial. Is your school still open? Mine is, and my daughter’s is as well, so quarantine is not an option here yet.

We are now on a school break and then the schools will be closed for another two weeks.

Hi Maria.
I really think the worst thing about the virus in our (non-communist) world is the media monster that has become a threat worse than the virus itself. People are acting insane and creating more danger that the underlying organism.
I think the wise folks among us (like you) will refuse to go nuts and will stay safe while others act out of fear.
Staying clean and safe however cannot be a bad thing.
Let’s stay calm and safe.
Blessings.

Staying calm and turning off the tv and social media works for me. Yes I’m concerned but it’s all in God’s hands.
But…I’m washing my hands more then I have ever done in my life. Lol!

Good morning to you my friend. We are not paying much attention to the media about it but rather friends of friends who work in the health industry give us a much better (sensible) outlook on the whole situation. Faith, trust & a little fairy dust is how I treat times such as this. Faith in God, surrounded by people I trust & love & a bit of fairy dust (doing things to that make me smile & giggle). Have a awesome week ahead.

Great that you are staying calm! I haven’t heard about the situation in Australia. Is there a lot of people affected by the virus?

I dont think that many, around 200 in our state i think. Friends interstate that i have heard of getting it are quarantined then sent home, no drama. Stay well

I made a couple of posts today, the last one about how things are starting to be affected by this virus in the town where I live. Since posting, I have heard tonight of the first death of someone in my town from Coronavirus. I think we are two weeks behind the Italian situation. Hope you are ok up there.

I’ll check it out. There are people here affected. A few people in my region are ill, and there’s been two deaths in Sweden so far (Saturday morning.) As far as I know now I go to work as usual tomorrow morning. I think that is a little scary. My little sis on the other hand is totally unbothered, she went to the movies last night.

We are in the gray area they speak of, we’re not freaking out but not taking it lightly. Especially since my husband too has “underlying health conditions”. I did mention to him that if this hasn’t been a lesson in prepping and homesteading, I don’t know what is! Stay healthy, my friend..

I think that is a very wise approach. If we can stay calm and learn something from this we can face future challenges more easy. There is a big difference between hoarding and prepping in my opinion. Being prepared is always a great thing.

Thanks, Maria, for the coffee chat and sharing what’s going on in your town. In my city, public schools are closed for three weeks until April 5 (usually it would be only one week at mid-March). Major events and tourists attractions are also closed until April 5 for now. We’re advised to practice social distancing. I’m good atm. Hope you and your daughter stay well. #weekendcoffeeshare

So far there havent been any confirmed cases in my country so it’s not all out madness yet although there’s all sorts of conspiracy talk on govt covering up its inadequacy to prevent panic among other things.
Facemasks have been sold out to general public since beginning of the year and the prices of hand sanitizer have been creeping up and up…
The only thing preventing people from panic buying things is not having disposable income because amidst all that the economy is also crushing resoundingly…
Fun times

We’ve had very few cases in Sacramento, but precautions are being taken to limit the spread. Our university is making all classes to be taught online, events are cancelled, etc. Heres hoping it all blows over soon, Maria! Stay safe!

That’s good! Online classes are great! When I went to University I choose one very far from where I lived, and I could take part of the courses online. I travelled to the University a few time every semester, and stayed there a few days every time. It was a wonderful solution that allowed me a major that wasn’t available nearby. Stay safe my friend ❤

Hi Maria,
How are you? We got thrust into this corona crisis early on a few weeks ago when the state education department banned all overseas travel, and that included our son’s trip to Europe. I thought that was a bit preemptive at the time because it was largely confined to China with maybe one case in Italy. Within a week, it blew up and Italy was in a bad way. Our principal feels the dept had info that hadn’t been made public yet. I also have an auto-immune disease and due to fibrosis in my lungs, only have 50% lung capacity on a good day. I haven’t been feeling great and so feel that I am more at risk. I’m actually at risk if I catch any respiratory bug at the moment.
A few years ago, I developed pneumonia and it was an entirely different beast than the flu and that is where corona fits in. It is very nasty. However, we are not powerless. Obviously, isolation and thorough handwashing are two strategies. I’ve also read from a good source that betadine throat gargle kills viruses including corona. Unfortunately, it’s pretty foul and I can’t see kids using it. What I don’t feel is being emphasized enough, is improving your general health and eating plenty of fresh fruit and veg. Somehow, each of us needs to make sure we don’t become a statistic or cause someone we come into contact with to become one either.
I am grateful that I love research, writing, reading and have my blogging community. My dogs are also fantastic. I am now larely keping in touch with the real world via FB, phone and the odd outing.
Most of us should be okay if we are careful.
Best wishes,
Rowena

You have to be very careful! It is wonderful that you love to read and enjoy things that we can do by ourselves. My daughter picked up a 430 pages long book for the first time the other day! There can be some good things coming out of this, families becoming closer and learning new things together.
I believe what you said about improving our general health and eating more fruit and vegetables is very important! We love sprouting and always have alfalfa and mungbean sprouts in our windowsill. We’ve also just planted seeds for a garden. It’s stil cold outside, but when the seedlings are big enough to be put outside it should be warmer.
I’ve been wondering about if this pandemi will affect how we traveling the future? Just before the craziness started here I started to plan out summer vacation, with travel of course. I never got around to actually purchase the plane tickets, now I’ll wait and see how this develops. Stay safe my friend.
