There is a slight dust of snow covering the ground outside my window. There’s been an unusually mild January for this area. For the most part we haven’t had any snow at all. Today we have some, and it is a little colder (not much.) The coffee is hot. What can I offer you to drink today?
Lucky for you this is a virtual coffee date, since I was sick as a dog last night. I felt great when I went to bed, but woke up shivering, and sweating at the same time around midnight. Around 3am I had to get up and take a warm shower. I fell back asleep, but when the alarm went off I had a high fever. I rarely get sick and it didn’t feel good to call in sick, but I did. It’s not strange at all that I got sick, because I’ve been around sick kids all week, but still..The fever lasted for about 12 hours, and then it disappeared as fast as it came. My body still aches, and I’m tired, but besides that I feel OK. It’s the weekend, so I’ll have plenty of time to rest 🙂
I’ve taken a break from the blogging world this first month of the year. I’ve missed all of you! I purposely haven’t installed internet at our new house yet (I will.) I had the idea of helping my daughter conquer the new things in her world without the distraction of online gaming for a month. It worked out great. She is making progress with her Swedish, she learned to swim, and she developed a love for books this past month. She’s been a great reader for a long time, but she never seemed to enjoy reading. This first month of the year we’ve been to the library twice a week, and we’ve spent two hours a day reading together. I’ve always loved books, and now she finally found that magic as well. I couldn’t be happier.
I like routines, and I feel that we finally gotten into some good routines in our brand new life back home in Sweden. The weekdays mostly consists of work, school, dinner, laundry and reading. We have long days, but there is no stress about them. We always take the time to smell the roses on the way.
How are you doing? How has this first month of 2020 treated you?
Love,
Maria
Nice to see you back here in the blogosphere. You were missed! 🙂

Welcome back dear friend!! Routines are so important and makes so much sense to work on them especially with children. I think they thrive best with good routines! Interesting everyone is having a mild winter this year. I would say we are too which is A-okay with me!
I hope you are feeling better, am glad you are heading into the weekend for much needed rest. Take care! ❤️😃🥰

Thank you Diana. I have enjoyed glimpses of your ponies during my break. That always makes me smile 🙂 It looks like you are enjoying life this winter. I feel great now, it was a short illness, less than 24 hours. The weekend is good so far. My daughter and I did a crochet project together. We made her a new hat. It turned out pretty good. 💗

Sounds like you’re enjoying some peace and order. I love it! My January was a mess with all of my kids getting sick back-to-back. But at least I got to read a lot…silver lining! Hope you have a great February, too. 🙂

Lovely t see you back and hear that you and your daughter are settling down. It really sounds so harmonious with the two of you reading and just
settling into your new life.
Glad your high temperature disappeared so fast, it is very draining.
Wise of you to take a month off without Internet. It is a good idea.

Thank you! I feel great now 🙂 I very seldom get sick in any way so it’s kind of hard to know what to do. I tried to think away not feeling good for as long as I could, before finally realizing that I would be better of in bed. I’ve been enjoying your photos on Instagram and Facebook. Hope you are having a great weekend!

Hi, and welcome back! Glad you’re on the mend. It’s great that your daughter has taken to reading. My love of books developed at a much older age and I wish I would have had this love of reading earlier in life. Oh well, you can’t change the past.
Have a great weekend!

Reading and swimming, two of my favorite hobbies, and glad to read your daughter is learning to love them.

It has been a good month, I hope it has for you as well. I’ve been enjoying your photos from Valley of Fire a lot. Winter is the perfect time to visit. We’ve been talking about different ecosystems with the children at work, and on Thursday I showed them a movie with some photos I put together about the Eco systems in the Mojave Desert. There was many photos from Valley of Fire in the movie. The kids really enjoyed seeing the faces of the desert. Have a wonderful new week 💗

Welcome back! I hope you’ll be feeling much better soon! January was very busy for me, one of the goals I worked on was doing physical therapy for my shoulder, and there is a lot going on with my job. I wrote on these things and more in my coffee share. Please do visit! That is a lovely photo of you and the background. I look forward to seeing more of you in that setting! BTW,it is a half-caff hazelnut for me, thank you!

Hi Maria and welcome back. Of course you were missed.
But you took your daughter through whatever was preventing her from a love of reading.
Excellent! I did not need my parents help with this, but watched them struggle with getting this for one of my sisters. It is truly a gift beyond a price and you daughter will now likely enjoy reading for the rest of her life.
=great to have you back for our weekend visits.

Thank you so much Gary! I certainly did not need any help with my lovestory with books.. but we are all different. I am very happy she enjoy reading now. It used to make me sad thinking about all the great writing she would miss out on. How are things in northern California? I need to catch up on everything I missed. One step at a time 🙂 I hope you are doing great my friend. Thank you for having Coffee with me.

I’m happy your illness was short lived. We have been battling germs here as well. The winter here in Southern New Jersey has been very mild so I’m quite envious of your snow even if it is just a dusting. Your month off sounds like a great way to reconnect with life and make special memories with your daughter. I’ve not been blogging for a while either and have been spending a lot of time reading and doing art, both things I find relaxing and rejuvenating. Have a great week.

Thank you! It was a very short but intense 24hour cold/flu? Fever for one day, pain in my body for one day and then just gone by the wind. I’m happy I am not in an area with malaria. How are you doing? Last month my daughter and I did a lot of reading out loud together, and it was stories that she enjoyed, mostly about kids and adventures. I like historical novels, Child development, and gardening books. What kind of books do you enjoy? Thank you for the visit! Have a Great new week.

I have a soft spot for kids and adventure stories as somewhere in reading those I discovered other realms with magic and set me on a path to my favourite kind of books, epic high fantasy, magic and mystery.
