Mindful exploring, through the eyes of a viking daughter.

This week we invite you to break the rules and go beyond the traditional realistic image of an object, scene, or element. For Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #74, we are going “Abstract.”
This week’s challenge was the most challenging so far, as I don’t think I take a lot of photos of abstract art…but it got me thinking, and maybe I do, sometimes. The photo above is an art installation in between two apartment complexes.
I shared this photo of a baby Barrel Cactus before. This natural pattern is pretty abstract when you think about it. Photo taken in the Mojave Desert, Nevada.
One of the definitions I found when I googled abstract was Abstraction indicates a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art (Wikipedia.) What about this landscape in Death Valley National Park (CA,) it’s pretty abstract don’t you think? I enjoy visiting art exhibitions from time to time, in fact I took my daughter to one last week, that we both enjoyed, but in my book nature will always be the greatest artist. If I had to pick a favourite human artist, it would be the Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava.
This is Sundial Bridge in Redding (CA,) that he designed. It is a cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge for bicycles and pedestrians over the Sacramento River. It forms the worlds largest sundial and the beauty of the bridge is amazing admired from any side.
So what does Abstract make you think about? What art do you see with the eyes of your mind? I would love to see that!
Love,
Maria

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. I entered the magic world of photography when I was five years old. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I believe that you are what you eat, body and soul. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. Above everything else is my daughter. A Sagittarius loves to travel, have an open mind and, and a philosophical view. It motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life. Sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. A lot of that perfectly describes me. The fact that my ancestors, on both parents sides, were vikings, doesn’t exactly lessen my desire to explore. Maybe a slightly more mindful exploring, compared to the average viking. My blog, and my art prints is a results of my (inner and outer) explorations. Love, Maria

Hi M – nice trio for the abstract theme – and all three selections have fun abstract lines – and love the colors on the baby Barrel Cactus

Never would have guessed that was a cactus. Great photo. But my favorite of the series is the one of the bridge

Thank you! I lived near that bridge for about a year, and I loved spending time walking in that area. The bridge really gives the place a special vibe. There’s a popular hangout spot under the bridge, where people meet and play music/sing/dance/talk etc. Thank you for your comment.

I too love calatrava. His NYC structure at the 911 museum is incredible. All of your examples are terrific

Wonderful! He is amazing. I think I like his City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia the most. Thank you for your kind comment.

Cool bridge and that it is a sundial makes it even more so. Love nature’s abstracts, too!

I started this comment 4 times It sent my mind a little abstract, lol. I love the abstract, all of it the bridge is cool cause it has several uses & tells time. Such a clever bridge. I love Architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, quirky colourful abstract.

Hi, Maria. I think you take great abstracts! Maybe you should include them in your repetoire more often. They’re terrific.

That was quite an interesting cactus!
I have to agree with you about nature being a great artist.
I remember watching a TV-broadcast with the Sun Dial bridge and the flames from the Carr Fire. 2018 was not a good summer with all the fires.

They were worried about the bridge during that fire. That was horrible times, a summer I wish I could erase.
