Oatman (AZ) – Where the burros rule the streets

On the  way home from my future homestead last weekend we took the scenic Route 66. We dared driving up Sitegraves Pass, and to the very interesting gold rush town of Oatman.

It was my second visit, and it felt like there was even more burros than the first time I visited. They are literally everywhere. You have to stop for them if you decide to drive through town (Route 66 goes through town,) and you definitely have to watch your step on the sidewalks. Most of them are curious and friendly.

We saw many interesting colors, like this pinto (?) burro. The local shopkeepers seem to look out for them, and enjoy their presence. Almost like if they were pets.

My daughter had been talking about seeing the burros for a couple days, when we got there she offered one of the burros to smell her hand. He choose not too, but they stood there looking at each other for a what seem to be a long time. The burro was standing still and she could of easily touched him, but (in my daughter’s words) “since he choose not to smell my hand, I need to respect his space.” I could not of been more proud of her. She has always had a very good hand with horses, but we have not spent a lot of time around burros.

Some burros knew their way very well around the tourists ..

This burro had such friendly eyes. Not at all bothered by people passing all around her. She actually looked like she enjoyed herself very much.

This mama walked up to me and asked for a treat. I didn’t have any, but she seemed rather happy anyways. I hope you enjoyed this virtual visit 🙂 It was a hot day, even though it was the first weekend of November. We would of stayed longer if it had not been so hot. I’d say that winter is the perfect time to visit. Have you been to Oatman? What did you think? Or would you like to go to Oatman, where the burros rule the streets?

I hope your week is outstandingly fabulous so far!

It’s all about experiences, and the healing power of nature. Life is about choosing happiness. I entered the magic world of photography when I was five years old. My gypsy soul have taken me to many different countries, and definitely taught me to be more humble. I believe that you are what you eat, body and soul. I enjoy growing my own food, and spending time outdoors. A Sagittarius loves to travel, have an open mind and, and a philosophical view. It motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life. Sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. A lot of that perfectly describes me. The fact that my ancestors, on both parents sides, were vikings, doesn’t exactly lessen my desire to explore. Maybe a slightly more mindful exploring, compared to the average viking. My blog, and my art prints is a results of my (inner and outer) explorations. Love, Maria

  1. I love all the Burros!! I need to go to Oatman for sure, and your daughter is so sweet and thoughtful. They sure look happy and don’t mind all the tourists! ♥️
My husband visited there with a friend of his years ago and got me a t-shirt. They had been at Laughlin River run motorcycle rally, hence why I didn’t go… It was a guy thing! Lol 😀 you take the best photos!! ♥️♥️♥️
