The Weekly Smile – Writing a bio in third person

My weekly smile is a little different this week. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a challenge, related to my book project. This challenge actually had me both smile, and laugh out loud many times. I’ve been reading hundreds of bio’s (that was the most hilarious part,) and articles about how to write a bio, these past few weeks. I realize I’m going to need something new, and fresh for my book. I’ve always written my about page, and other bio’s in first person. After my research, I’ve decided to write in third person. This might not be the finished product, but this is what I have so far. I’ve written this for the intended audience for my guide book The Desert Around Las Vegas – A Guidebook To Amazing Day Trips In The Mojave Desert (to be released later this fall.) I imagine this person to be a working professional visiting Las Vegas, that travels for work and/or pleasure. He/she enjoys to experience unique nature, maybe as a hobby photographer, hiker, or other outdoor enthusiast.

Maria is a teacher, gardener, explorer, photographer, author, blogger, and crazy horse girl! She currently lives in Las Vegas (NV.) Maria grew up in the mountains, outside a ski resort. For a while in the 90’s she seriously thought about becoming a snowboard PRO. There wasn’t so many girls snowboarding back then. Due to a high number of friends that got seriously injured, while they were snowboarding, she decided to follow one of her other passions. She became a baker, and worked as a baker for 9 years. Until she decided to go back to school, to become a teacher.

She loves horses, and have fostered many rescue horses. At one time she had 17 rescue horses in her pasture. Observing wild horses in the wild, is one of her favorite activities. Camera in hand of course. In 2013 she published a book about Nevada’s Mustangs. She is a country girl at heart, currently trapped in the city, working towards her goal of a small homestead. She believes that you are what you eat; mind, body and soul. She enjoy growing her own food, and she spent five years in California learning about organic gardening.

Maria has a BA in Early Childhood Education. She has enjoyed exploring the world with young children as a kindergarten teacher, preschool teacher, nanny, 4H leader, tutor, and horseback riding instructor. She absolutely loves books, and read a lot, but believe in learning by doing. Making learning fun for her young daughter is a high priority. She homeschool her daughter via a hands-on, project based curriculum, that suits her learning style, and interests.

Thanks to her grandma Agnes, she entered the magic world of photography when she was five years old. Maria’s gypsy soul have taken her to 48 US States, and most countries in Europe.
