I found a photo I overlooked from last winter, while organizing my photos for my book yesterday. I often tell myself that I should take more black and white photos, because I really enjoy it.
Traffic close to the California/Nevada border, between Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Do you enjoy black and white photography? Why? Why not? Do you ever shoot in black and white? Or convert your photos from color? I sometimes shoot in black and white, but often convert photos that I think have the right depth for black and white.
The most colorful thing in the world is black and white, it contains all colors and at the same time excludes all.

I am SO enjoying spending more time doing photography than I have in a long time. The thought of fall, and cooler weather (=more photography) is very exciting! What’s going on in your world? My daughter and I are working on some math projects this week. I’m organizing photos for my book, and thinking about that I should write a new, updated BIO for my about page, and my book. I’m praying for good air qualities in our area this weekend, so that we can go camping. I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far.
Love,
Maria
Black and White is great! It totally changes any photo. That looks like the Cajon Pass just south of Victorville…

It really does. It might of been that pass 🙂 I believe so.

I used to travel to Costa Mesa with the now Ex wife to see her mum fairly often.
Going down there was never a pleasant trip in terms of driving. Saw a car roll over too on the 15 somewhere between Vegas and the Pass.
Scary roads.

I do like black and white photos but I don’t change many on my phone. I should try that more often. You are so creative, I love it! 😀

Thank you Diana! If you’re playing with the photos on your phone there’s a free app that does great conversions to black and white, and other editing. It’s called Snapseed. I use it for snapshots I take with my phone sometimes. Have a great day!

Good to know, I’ll have to download that app! Thanks 😊

that photo is fantastic in black and white – the lines on the road are in sync with the railing and then some more verticals lead the eye to the bit of open road in front and then those mountains – ahhhh

Thank you! I agree, the photo actually looked pretty bland in color, but in black and white those lines I tried to capture stands out more.

I do occasionally convert to B&W and used B&W film back in the day. When I convert, I usually Photoshop pretty heavily to bring out the contrast more. It might seem like cheating, but Ansel Adams popularized that ultra-contrasty B&W look.

Yes! We can blame it all on Ansel Adams 😉 LOL. I do enjoy looking at black and white photography online, and do it quite often.

Simple subjects with good contrast are good candidates for B&W. I generally like color better (flowers! plants!), but on occasion, I’ll convert a shot that I think would look well.
Glad you’re finding more time for creative fun.

I agree with you, simplicity and black & white goes hand in hand. I’m happy you show us your beautiful flowers in full color! Thank you 🙂

There is quite the art to black and white photography, and I need to explore more. I’m drawn to color when I take pics, so I don’t think in B&W! But your photos are amazing and crisp with lots of contrast! Best wishes on your book project, Maria! My daughter is reading my fitness book’s first draft and has given me some excellent feedback so far, and I work on that when I can. My semester is off to a fast start and that has been my focus of late!

Your subjects makes color a great choice!
Best of luck with your book project! That is exciting! A first draft is a big thing. I imagine your first draft being more grammatically correct than anything I ever written. LOL. I’d love to read your book. I hope the new semester is exciting! Is your foot back to its normal self?

Thank you, Maria! Foot is healing nicely and I am happy to be back to my school year routine (as are you, I’m sure)!

I’m so happy to hear that! I’m super excited about our new school routines. Today is a math day. We started out in our Star Trekk math book with subtractions. Played chess. Did math via an online adventure academy. Finally we are finishing up with a weeklong project of making, our own sourdough bread, some science there too 🙂 We made the starter five days ago, and have been feeding it twice every day since then, in two hours we’re going to see how our efforts pay out. Lots of fun!

Thinking about closing down the summer home and making our way to AZ soon… but first I must see my boys and friends and family … one last time.

I do like Black and white… it shows so many more details… but not all the time. I love color in my life…

It’s a good thing we don’t have to choose. I would choose color if I had to choose, but I’m glad I don’t have too. Black and white is fun!
