“Winter is coming.” ― A Game of Thrones
It’s February, and still winter. At least for some of us. I have seen some snow this winter, but not as much as I usually do. The theme for this week’s Sunday Still is Frozen. I digged out four of my favorite winter photos from last year. The photo above is Lassen Volcanic National Park’s visitor center, in February last year. Lots of snow! When I found this photo I felt a stronge urge to go snowshoeing.
A short hike up from the visitor center takes you to Sulphur Works. It’s the parks most easily accessible hydrothermal area. Very intersting to see…if you can stand the smell. I used to spend almost every weekend hiking in Lassen Volcanic National Park when I lived in northern California. I miss it, and I work hard on finding new favorite places around here.
A frozen Castle Lake (CA.)
My second favorite area for winter hiking in northern California would be the area around Castle Lake, and Heart Lake.
“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”

I know that my dog misses our snow adventures. I’m trying to make up for it the best I can. Yesterday we had a fantastic afternoon in Red Rock National Conservation Area, outside Las Vegas (NV.) I will post photos from that adventure later this week. …and yes, there was some snow on the northern slopes of the Red Rock, but nothing like the photos in today’s post. What’s the weather like where you are? I hope you’re having a fabulous week!
Love,
Ms Zen
“What’s the weather like where you are?” We were supposed to get a foot of snow, but it turned into 3 inches of wet, heavy slush with a quarter inch of ice on top… The dogs love, love snow, but hate, hate this crusty crud… Beautiful photos! I love snowy mountains.

Beautiful photos!! I get to see snow capped mountains where I live, and they are staying white as one after another storm comes through. The local mountains will be crowded with skiers and snow seekers! Maybe we will visit too! More rain this afternoon and all day tomorrow. My horses stalls are doing good so am enjoying this winter best as I can! ❤️🌧️

Glad your horse stalls have dried up. I love seeing snow around me. We can see Mount Charleston from here, that have snow most of the winter. I love that!

Beautiful landscapes. I miss your CA adventure photos, too. Although we have plenty of snow. We had a wintry mix overnight with about 4″ accumulated. Snowplowing and shoveling done, now I can enjoy it! 😉

In the distance I can see the white Sierras! Your photos are gorgeous, Maria! Looks like your dog loves the snow. Brodie came back with balls of snow attached to his legs when we walked through the Sedona snow. He loves it too!

Thank you Terri! Yes, the white Sierras…. I saw some wonderful photos from Tahoe this morning. I love watching dogs play in the snow. Dogs and kids alike 🙂 Enjoy the rest of this season!

Aaah, snow in Lassen National Park is so beautiful! Love your photo choices. No snow here in the Bay Area, just lots of rain to create some crazy traffic (it took me 2 hrs to get to work yesterday, ugh!)
