Weekend Coffee Share – or maybe an organic super protein smoothie sounds tempting?

img_1257

Happy Friday! How is your week so far? For the first time ever I’m writing the Weekend Coffee Share on a Friday evening (actually it’s almost midnight.) I went to bed early, (it’s been a long, intense week,) but I had so many thoughts running trough my head, that it was impossible to sleep. I’ll share some of my thoughts with you, instead of pushing them away, trying to reach la la land.

How have you been? What kind of beverage can I offer you this Friday night? Of course you can always have coffee if you like, but there’s other beverages as well. Make yourself at home.

I tried a new super-protein-smoothie today. One of my friends talked about Ka’chava. It sounded very interesting, with 70  organic plant based superfood. In my head I thought about some recent hikes that took longer than I thought, where I ended up being starving along the way. What If I had a quick filling meal with me for all those emergencies?  Or when you’re spending time in places where the food is less appealing to your healthy lifestyle? It would be so awesome to bring something you could eat with a clear conscience, and stay on top of your world. So I decided to try it. It’s a powder that you can mix with any liquid (water, almond milk, cashew milk, soy milk etc.) It was as delicious as my friend told me, and very filling. I’m not associated with the brand in any way, just happily discovered something that I like, and will add to my daily diet. (And YES, my New Year Resolution workout routine is working, thanks for asking.) Maybe you want to switch your coffee, for a delicious smoothie this weekend, and try it yourself? Did I say that Ka’chava is seductively delicious?

So tell me about your week! Is it one of those super busy weeks in your corner of the universe? It has been a busy, rainy week here.

We don’t have very many days of rain in the desert. I enjoyed our rainy days!

Today the sun cleared up the clouds, and we were back to the low 60’s again.

There’s been a big focus on my daughter’s school work this week. We’ve spent an average of 2,5 hours after school every day working on things that she needs to improve. Learning wise last semester (when she tried living with her dad) was a joke. I’m not that concerned, because I know how intelligent she is, and she has all the support she needs now. This week’s hard work paid off, and there is already noticeable improvement. I also took her to see my optometrist today, just to make sure the challenges I’ve notices recently isn’t caused by anything physical. It would be such a bummer to have her work harder, when all she needs is glasses, but that wasn’t the case. Her eyes are perfect. I’m relieved, since I have some challenges with my eyes. We’re just going to keep making education a priority, like we always have. It’s so much easier to help her now, when I have her full time again. I’ve ordered a bunch of new, exciting books for her, to make it fun.

How do you like your smoothie? I’m totally hooked. Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? I have some things I need to catch up with; update my online art gallery, clean up the dog area in the backyard (if it’s not too wet,) finish putting my daughter’s new loft bed together (it has hundreds of pieces..literally,) and I definitely need to get out of the city at some point. I’d like to try a new hike this weekend, I have a few on my wish list. My soul is screaming for a horseback ride this weekend. We’ll see. I still look at horse ads almost every day. While I’m sketching on garden plans for my future homestead, gotta keep the dream alive 😉

Oooo, I almost forgot! I’ve ordered a DNA testing kit. I don’t have it in my hands yet, but I’m super excited about it. I don’t know why I haven’t done it before, it’s been on my mind for a long time. I talked to a relative of mine earlier this week, and decided that I wanted to take a test myself. Have you done it? Or is it something that you would like to do?  Why, or why not?

Have an awesome, amazing weekend!

Love,

Ms Zen

  1. I got the kit during last year’s winter holidays, but decided not to use it. With the news reports on the use of the data, I have had some concerns about confidentiality. As the database expands, a brother is learning more about our ancestors in Norway. Our healthcare provider is offering DNA analysis services, still optional at this point; too many ways for the data to be misused by healthcare, insurance, and government entities until there are irrevocable privacy guarantees in place.

My parents were proactive in advancing their children’s at-home learning, not leaving it to the public school system. Happy to hear that you are involved in your daughter’s education again. 🙂

    • I can see you point when it comes to privacy concerns regarding DNA testing. I have several friends that shares your concern.
Education is so important. I’m not really interested in working as a teacher in the public school system here, but I sure do care about children’s education. I believe that it would be wise to put in a lot more resources when it comes to education of our future.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend Lizl.

  2. I’m enjoying my coffee this morning as I read this and the protein shake sounds amazing. With a busy schedule I should check this out.

I relate to the school work remembering how I had to help my three when they were that age. I remember mostly the procrastinating I had to endure as they struggled with homework. Each child is different and I remember telling them you spend more time wining and complaining that we would be done if they just concentrated and finished, usually with my help. They have blossomed into successful adults I’m so proud of, so all the hard work does pay off. You just bring me back to those days, I rather miss them sometimes!

It’s been a busy week, mostly with the rain and mud at the stables. Work has been busy too…. I am busy working this weekend. Maybe I can fit in a weekend coffee share this evening! LOVE hearing about your week and am so very happy for you and your daughter’s return home full time. She is such a sweetheart and I’m sure grateful to be with you and Gretchen! ❤️ Diana

    • Thank you for your sweet comment Diana! I always enjoy having coffee with you. The protein shake is really good. I have a monthly subscription now. I brought a shake with me, while hiking in Valley of Fire yesterday, and it was just perfect.

I bet it’s bitter sweet when the kids are all grown up. You can be proud of them! And you have your granddaughter to spoil your attention at. That must be wonderful. You’ll be close to them soon.

I hope the sun shines on you this week. ❤

  3. Hi Maria. It’s always good to see you around our virtual coffee table. You can file me too with the group of supporters of home schooling. We did it for our 3 – all the way through K-HS and we never looked back once we saw the benefit – but acknowledge that not everyone would want the life style that comes with it. For us, the flexibility, the quality of learning and the community of other parents we shared stuff with – it was all great.

The other thing I’m thankful that I did was when our herd was young, I read to them each night. Reading is part of their lives now and helps defend them some from the mental monopoly of their phones.

Anyway – I continue to love the glimpses of Las Vegas life you share each week. Blessings to you, your daughter and of course Gretchen.

    • Thank you Gary! I always enjoy the coffee shares too. Reading to your kids is so important. I’ve read to my daughter since I’ve found out that I was pregnant with her. It’s a part of our routine. Right now we’re reading Viking Sagas in the evenings. My life is very different here in Las Vegas. I don’t have enough land to have income bringing projects, like I did in Northern California, so I have to work full time. Which lead me to find a good elementary school here for my daughter. I still think I have the biggest responsibility when it comes to her education, and we dedicate a lot of time every day to her education. I can definitely see us homeschool again in the future, if the opportunity arises.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend!

  4. I’ll try the smoothie thanks Maria. I am in need of reigning myself in food wise and that sounds like a good way to possibly replace one meal. My brother had a genetic test looking at maternal ancestors which is dfferent from the ancestory send you. Theoretically if our mother is the same our results should be the same. He wrote a post on it

  5. That smoothie sounds delicious and very portable! I love the photo of your daughter with her new rain boots and Gretchen’s eyes, so penetrating!
My sister had a DNA test and gave the sibs the full report… no big surprises, but I wonder about the accuracy of these tests as so many companies are doing it. I also worry about how it the data is used. Some day it may be mandatory part of doctor care. We’ll all be microchipped – yikes! I think I’ve watched too many sic-fi movies, so my thoughts tend toward nefarious schemes. 😉
We’re getting a big snowstorm tonight…it’ll be a winter wonderland tomorrow!

    • It is delicious! Let me make you one!
I bet your winter wonderland is marvelous! I went to Valley Of Fire yesterday, and it felt hot in the desert. I had jeans, but wished for shorts!
Yes, the DNA tests of today have some questions about them. I understand the privacy concern. Several of my friends have choosen not to do it. I’m curious, I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, and I want to do it. I hope you had a magical weekend! Cheers to a wonderful new week 🙂

  6. I love the image of the water and rocks as well as that beautiful dogs eyes.

When I was reading about your smoothie it jogged my mind, there are a few women at my work that are trying so protein smoothy thing but they mix it into their coffee instead of sugar or creamer. They are loving it. I can’t think of what they called it, but they get it at our local Costco. I find taste with any these products is tricky, if I find a good one I stick with it.

I would love to try a DNA kit. I am always saying to my husband that I am going to order the Ancestry DNA kit for fun. Maybe this year. Anyway, great coffee post. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed the photos.
I have actually never tried any protein shake ever before. Lately I’ve been eating a mostly Vegan diet, and I felt that it was a good add on to that. I’m pretty sure I get all the proteins I need, but just to make sure. It is really delicious, and I feel more energetic after having one. Always a win 🙂

Let me know if you decide to do the DNA test. I’m so curious about mine. Have an awesome new week!

  7. Hello there! Great to hear your daughter is doing better! I would have loved a loft bed like that when I was young – I was so envious of the neighbors bunk beds.. 🙂 I haven’t done the DNA thing (I’m kind of with Eliza on what kind of info am I giving away!) but it would be interesting. Members of my family have done it and it was neat to see the results. I would however love to research my ancestors, even to find just names and dates.. Beyond my grandparents on both sides, I know nothing. Great to hear from you and have a wonderful week!

    • Thank you Kathleen! I would of loved a loft bed as a kid as well.
I have my family tree back to 400 years ago, on both my mom and my dads side, but I’m more curious. ..and who knows what really happened that long ago.
Cheers to a fantastic new week!

  8. I’m glad to hear your daughter is doing better and I hope she loves her loft bed (we recently got one for my daughter and yes there are so many pieces!). Your smoothie sounds intriguing, I would love to try it. I haven’t done the ancestry DNA kit yet but I think I will order one soon. Just out of curiosity. Have a great week!

    • Hi Amy, let me make you a smoothie right away! They are sp delicious! I had one this morning, and a couple during the day yesterday.
Yes, it’s definitely curiosity that makes me want to know more about my ancestors. Let me know if your curiosity wins! LOL. I will write about my results here later. Cheers to a fantastic new week!

      • Curiosity for me also. I know my dad’s family immigrated from France but my mother’s side is a big mystery. I know to take the results with a grain of salt, but I think it would be interesting to see what the DNA tells me. I’ll be interested to read about your results. Have a great week!

        • I’m so curious to see if the results are the same as my family tree..I know my family’s history 400 years back, but before that it’s not 100% documented. I hope you’ll drop in for a coffee or smoothie soon again 🙂 Have a great week!

  9. I’m glad things are going well with your daughters school. Sometimes the biggest help is just having a routine and some support. Sounds like you’ve got that covered. Hope your weekend plans worked out (since it’s now Sunday afternoon) and that you had some outdoor time. The weather here in NJ has been windy and wet. We are expecting a low of 8 degrees overnight!! Enjoy your week.

    • Thank you Nancy 🙏 yes, the weekend was awesome! I built the loft bed for my daughter on Saturday, and went hiking in Valley of Fire State Park on Sunday. I’m very happy with both days. Just now catching up with my blogging friends. I hope you had a sweet weekend. Cheers to a fabulous new week!!

  10. It takes a lot of dedication to work with children after school and good that you are doing that! I like smoothies but mostly in the summer, so my steaming mug will have to do for now as we chat 🙂 LV weather seems a lot like NorCal, rain, then sun, but still cold! On the DNA testing, I did both 23 & Me and Ancestry. We’ll have to share our results (of course the Irish/UK origins were predominant), as I have a wee bit of the Scandinavian in me. Maybe we’re cousins, LOL!

    • Maybe we’re cousins 😉 did the 23 & me and ancestry give you the same result? That would be interesting to do both! It’s been super windy here, but there’s no more rain. After tomorrow it looks like the weather is going to be very comfortable. Thanks for stopping by for coffee ☕️
