Good morning! It’s Sunday morning, and you might of wondered why I am so late to invite your for coffee this weekend? Well, I had some challenges with my MacBook Pro. It was 7 years old, and had been through a lot (photo shoots in the desert, resulting in having to had sand vacuumed out from the inside..etc..) My old computer served me well, and when the motor finally burned yesterday morning, I totally understood why. I tried to see if it could be recovered. It could not.

Ready for some coffee? There is plenty of delicious, black, strong, hot dark French Roast. It cold easily be iced, if you’d prefer a cold drink this morning.

Since my faithful old MacBook died, I had to start thinking about a replacement. I looked around for a while yesterday, and with help of some knowledgeable staff at a local Best Buy, I settled for a HP 2-1 Laptop with touchscreen. I just set it up this morning. It is definitely different compared to my old computer, but I am familiar with the system, since I used it back when I studied for my BA. It is going to take some time adjusting to the changes. Some changes that I like a lot, and others that might not really meet my expectations. I liked that I had the option to add a second keyboard as I was customizing the computer. It makes it easier to chat faster with friends and family in Sweden, since the Swedish alphabet has three more letters. The new computer is as fast as my old one, a big plus. I wasn’t 100% convinced that it was going to be, since I’m not that tech savvy when it comes to different processors. The colors are great, but not as vivid as my old MacBook Pro. I do like having a touchscreen. I believe as I get proficient in using it, it is going to be very helpful. Maybe especially for editing photos? Being able to zoom in and out quickly.

How was your week? Is your weekend everything you wished for so far? Despite the challenges with my old computer, I’d say it’s been a great, busy week. I have been working a lot, having fun, done a lot of off-leash dog training with my German Shepherd, and yesterday I tried a new Mexican restaurant. I’m very proud of my dog. Before my computer died, I spent a couple hours writing a post about obedience training for dogs. I had some nice photos of Gretchen doing different sets (sequences of obedience exercises,) to go with the post. I’ll start working on a new one next week, since I lost all that.

I’d love to hear more about your week! I’ve read some of the weekend coffee shares from my phone, and I’m planning on catching up on the rest today. What’s the weather like where you are? Is it fall yet? I can’t wait for it to be a little chillier. I spent a great deal of time yesterday organizing my closet. I’ve been forced to make some radical changes in my closet since I moved. Most of my clothes were meant for working with horses, or gardening. Activities I used to spend most of my day doing, up until less than a month ago. I still like the same type of clothes/style/colors, but I’ve been adding some new clothes, and dresses, to fit my new life. It was fun getting everything organized yesterday. I consider myself a minimalist. I like to be organized, and only have things that I actually use.

Talking about my old lifestyle, I really miss having horses in my life. I’ve been starting to look in to a way to be able to ride at least 1-2 times/week. I’d like that very much. I can’t really justify buying a horse right now. I work too much for it to not be an element of stress in my life. Riding someone else’s horse, a couple times a week would be very doable. I’m hoping to find someone that have a horse they would appreciate help with, and do some kind of work exchange, where I get to ride a couple times/week, and their horse gets exercise/training. That would be awesome if I found that. I’m going to look into local rescues that might appreciate a hand as well. I hope you’re having an awesome week. Feel free to grab another cup of coffee to go!

Love,

Ms Zen

  1. Your a Minimalist! Me too. Less is more! Bonnie Springs Ranch has some stables and horses, other than that I don’t know anything about horses. Which Mexican restaurant did you try, there are so many here. Yum! Sorry about your MacBook, totally sucks but you got your money’s worth at seven years. My Mac laptop died last year, it was replaced with this MacBook Pro with the 512g SSD. Love! I quit Windows a few years ago. That coffee thing up top is different, what is it? 😎

    1. Less is more, more time to spend doing the things that really matters.

I did see the boarding stables at Bonnie Springs when I visited. I might go on one of their trail rides every once in wile. Usually those are tailored towards tourists and beginner riders, but always worth a try. With a magical scenery like that, I’m sure it would be a great experience.

The Mexican restaurant we visited was Los Cucos. It was really good. I like Mexican food a lot, and love that there’s so many good ones to choose from.

Do you mean the French Press in the photo? Or the link to the weekly coffee share? The weekly coffee share is sort of a blogging community meetup every weekend. If you follow the link you’ll see other bloggers coffee shares, and you can add a post of your own if you’d like. It’s fun, and you might meet some new interesting bloggers.

      1. I meant the French Press, had no idea that it’s called that. I wish I could help you find a stable you would like. Los Cucos? Not heard of that one either! There are so many food options in Vegas! ❤️🌴🌵

        1. I think using a French Press is my favorite way of making coffee. It tastes delicious. You put ground coffee of your liking at the bottom, add hot water, stir, put the top on (without pressing down,) let it sit for a couple minutes, press down the top, and your coffee is ready. It stays hot in the press for quiet some time if you make more than a cup. They sell French Presses at many big chain stores (including Walmart.) I like that I can get good coffee on the go. The photo is from a cheap motel room, that I knew wouldn’t have good coffee. So I brought a water kettle, and my own press. Perfect for camping too 🙂 Have a great day!

  2. Thanks for the coffee, Maria! I’m glad you got your computer issues fixed! When my Surface Pro from Costco suddenly died (would not turn on at all), I all but panicked but since it was still under Costco’s concierge service, they replaced it with a Dell touch screen 13″ laptop for about the same price. I still have my desktop but I needed a laptop for school any way. I understand that you miss your horses and riding and hope you can find a good riding stable soon!

  3. So sorry about your computer, that’s horrible but am glad you are up and running with something new!

I know you’ll find a horse rescue or a stable where you could ride or exchange care with a horse owner. I know there are stables there as I had a friend who boarded there.

Thank you for the coffee! Had fun with my horses this weekend, and I’m working too! Take care dear friend, looking forward to cooler weather too! ❤️❤️❤️

      1. Also thank you for the link for the weekend coffee share! I added my name to the list so I’ll try and share my coffee next weekend! See if I did it correctly. Do I need to make a tag so it shares with the link? Thanks in advance, I’m still learning!! 😀

        1. You did successfully share a working link to your main blog homepage. (I’m about to read the post about your horses 😉 Next week when you write a post for the coffee share, share a link to that post, on the new link-up party. It’s a new page for sharing every week. I’m so happy you want to join. It’s a great way of finding new interesting blogs 🙂

  4. Hi Maria. Regarding you computer, yes – 7 years is a good run but it still died and I utter a sympathetic groan for you. Hope you did not lose too much. Life does happen – but you always seem to put the best spin on it. Well done – yet again my friend.

  5. I do not ride but I can imagine that it would be an activity to miss. I can imagine it as being a good way to relieve stress.
Enjoy your new computer – may it give you many years of being able to blog and share your photos.

  6. I hope you do find a way to ride a couple of times a week. I’m sure it was hard going from two horses to zero! I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that the touch screen is part of the reason the colors aren’t as vivid. It is also possible that the Mac was just a little higher end – I know Apple does put a premium on screens and things like that.

I hope you have a great week ahead!

    1. Thank you Trent. Yes it was quiet a change going from two-zero horses.

I noticed about the colors on the HP that the angle of the screen is critical. At the exact right angle they look very similar to the Mac, if the angle aren’t precise, they aren’t as sharp. I’m sure I’ll figure it out.

      Thank you 🙂

  7. Mechanical failure is one of the least fortunate things about the technological age. From cars to laptops, I get crazy when things stop working! Like everything else, you seemed to take it in stride.
Your life definitely sounds busier, but I think you must miss the grounding you felt with your garden and horses. I expect you’ll get it sorted eventually! ❤

    1. Yes, I’m clueless when it comes to mechanical failures. They just have to be taken cared of.

I do miss the balance I had with my garden and horses, very much. I will get there again. Right now I’m focusing on doing what I came here to do, and do it good. H is very happy, and that makes me happy as well. I do love my new job, and my new friends. Gretchen really, really like it here. Thank you for your kind, insightful comment Eliza ❤

  8. Sorry to hear about your 7-year-old crashing. My own Lenovo, the “War Horse’,served me well. it was stolen, in June, but my new HP has all of the backed-up files loaded and is serving me just fine. The War Horse was about ready to crash, anyway, so the thieves got nothing.
Our weather, here, is about 20 degrees cooler than Las Vegas. with clear skies. I spent Saturday in a couple of long meetings, but today was relaxing-with nothing more taxing than visiting the laundromat.

    1. When those war horses starts to get older you kind of expect something to happen soon.. Happy it wasn’t too much of a struggle for you either.

Your weather sounds perfect 🙂 I was just looking at the ten day forecast for us, and in about a week it’s going to be comfortable, and in ten day we’re having upper 80’s. Temperatures with a high in the 80’s, and cooler nights, is close to perfect if you ask me.

It sounds like you had a good weekend. Have a wonderful new week 🙂
