Wow, this week have gone by so fast! Maybe it’s the haze, and the smoke in the air that’s lulling me into some kind of dream land? Or maybe it’s the fact that I’m in the middle of planning, an unexpected move to another state? I don’t know. How is your week so far? Grab a cup of coffee and tell me about it!
How are things here? Well, things are going really good. Unexpectedly smooth. The pieces are just coming together one by one. I’ve found wonderful homes for my horses. They are leaving Saturday (tomorrow…) That is such a great relief. I couldn’t be happier with their new homes. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to them. My intention was to keep them for life. Knowing that they couldn’t get better homes makes it easier. The first person who looked at Fancy bought her, and her friend wanted Ghost. Just perfect. My intuition tells me that they are really good people.
I’ve packed all the things I’m planning to bring with me when I move, sold some of the bigger items, and donated the rest to fire victims. I feel light, and ready for new adventures. I’m working my last day here in California on the 20th. Only ten days from now! My goal is to find a reliable car this weekend, and sell my old truck as soon as I have another vehicle. That’s basically the only thing left to do. That is totally doable. I’m going to work a little extra these last days, which is just perfect. I’m slowly finishing up in my garden. I’ve given all my container fruit trees, and plants, to a friend. My tomatoes, yellow squash, and cucumber are still giving a good harvest every day. I’m harvesting in the mornings, and water a little, but I’m not doing much else in the garden. It’s going to go towards it’s natural end eventually. A garden in our extreme climate take a lot of work every day, and there’s no-one that’s going to do the work when I leave. It’s been a fun summer gardening wise. I’m very happy.
I have several job, and housing offers waiting in Nevada. I want to see things with my own eyes, and meet people, before deciding. That said, I know what I want. When I’m there it’s not going to take a long time to decide. I wish to get into some kind of normal routine as soon as possible.
I know that there’s been an unusual little amount of photos lately. I’s due to the fire. It’s dangerous to spend a lot of time outside in that smoke. The Carr Fire is now 178,752 acres and 49% contained. Still very smoky. I’m trying to be smart about it. I can’t wait to breath some fresh air, without a mask. I promise to make up for the lack of photos when I start my upcoming road trip. I’m actually excited about the drive. I’ve always enjoyed road trips, and their photo opportunities. As you probably know 🙂
Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new)!
Grab a cup of coffee and share with us! What’s been going on in your life? What are your weekend plans? Is there a topic you’ve just been ruminating on that you want to talk about? All are welcome!
I hope you’re having an awesome week!

Ms Zen

Yes, my daughter spent a month with her dad this summer. That have never happened before. For the first time since her birth he has a nice house, and a stable life. His girlfriend have a daughter her age. My daughter told me a couple weeks ago that she wants to start school there. Seeing how happy she is, I can’t say no. She’s admired her dad from a distance her whole life. She is thrilled to finally get chance to really get to know him. I’m happy for her, but there is no way that I could stay in northern California, 11 hours away, when she’s in southern Nevada. I miss her like crazy.

I love how positive you are about your big changes. Are you coming to Vegas?

Thank you. How I react to this unexpected situation is about the only thing I can control right now. So I’m doing my best 🙂 Yes, somewhere in the vicinity, I haven’t decided exactly where, but likely close to Vegas.

Wow, you’re progressing quickly. As Goethe said, “The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.” Ten days is not much more time!
So glad you found good homes for Ghost and Fancy. I’ll miss seeing posts of them and their progress. Maybe their new owners can give you updates to share with us from time to time?
Things here continue to be muggy and showery, although we had cooler temps yesterday and part of today. More rain and thunderstorms later today. We’ve had 1/4 our annual rainfall in the past 5 weeks – so crazy! These days, ‘when it rains, it pours!’ The garden in general, is loving it, although the wooly-leaved plants and herbs are molding. 😦 You should see the sunflowers – they are magnificent and the goldfinches have already started harvesting the seed. Life is good in the summer here.
Enjoy your weekend!

“The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.” – YES indeed 🙂
I would really like updates about Ghost and Fancy! I hope they will provide that 🙂
And please send us some of that rain :0 I love all the photos you’ve been sharing of your garden. You know, all that rain, that is like the summers I grew up with. Is there a lot of berries growing in your area? They usually like rain. There was an abundance of berries around my hometown in Sweden, with similar climate. I’m so happy you’re having a great summer! Enjoy your weekend my friend ❤

There are lots of wild blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, which we leave for the birds. We cultivate raspberries and it was a good year for them. Even put some in the freezer.

We had lots of blueberries, lingonberries, and raspberries in the woulds around our house growing up. In the backyard we had gooseberries, blackcurrant, and redcurrant. Up in the surrounding mountains there was cloudberries, and if you were really lucky you sometimes found them.

You are really doing this, you certainly didn’t waste time! You seem content with your decision and I am happy for you. You might have to re-title your blog, though 😉 Best wishes!!

How about West coast Zen? 🙂

That’s a great idea. I’m going to see what’s available, and think about it a little. I do like West Coast Zen. i’m thinking that I am going to keep spending time in California form time to time, Nevada (of course,) but probably some trips to Arizona, and Utah as well. Without horses there is a chance that I’ll make up for some lost road trips..

Best wishes for your car hunt. I am so happy to hear that the horses are being re-homed with people who will care for them. That would be a major weight off, were I you. I always enjoyed moving from apartment to apartment when I was younger. Shedding unwanted and possessions always felt good. Married and moved into a house at age 45, and I’m finally in the midst of a sort-and-toss, having “retired” a few years back. (Even considering dumping the console piano and replacing it with a portable keyboard.)
I dragged out my decomposing coffee grounds from last year and used them as mulch, this last week, for the late summer/autumn “drought resistant” seed in the south-facing garden. I think it’s helping, giving the plants support for a growth spurt. I’ve got actual flowers blooming there, now. Picking up some ideas from reading your blog. ::grin::
Looking forward to vicariously traveling along as you make your move!

Thank you Lizl! Things are coming together. The horses are moving today. I hope it will be a smooth move for them. Especially for Ghost, who haven’t done so much in his life yet.
After I’ve found the car I want, I’m going to relax a little. I’ve already planned my itinerary for the move, and booked two hotel nights, in different locations, for my drive to southern Nevada. It feels like thing are under control. I have not yet told my daughter, other than that I am coming to visit her. I can’t wait to wrap may arms around her. She’s never been away this long before.
Best of luck with your garden! I’d love to follow the progress. So happy that something I wrote about have helped you, and thank you so much for letting me know. Enjoy your weekend 🙂

When I visited CA, I loved it. The fires are such a tragedy. I hope you enjoy Nevada as well. It is still pretty dry air and quite warm. Best of luck with the move!

ou clearly have a lot more Zen than myself. I’m struggling to get my head around all your changes but seems things
have fallen perfectly into place for all of you, which is always an encouraging- sign you’re making the right decisions and it’s all meant to be. We helped a friend move suddenly and she has more than landed on her feet and made a huge turnaround. So it seems the lead up can be harder than the actual move. Probably making the decision itself can be the hardest part.
We have a married mum and dad , two kids, three dogs family and have lived in our house for about 18 years. So, I don’t have any relevant experience but I do believe knowing both parents is important for everyone…young and old. Not always possible though, even living under the same roof.
Hope you have a great week ahead and that the fires get put out soon.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Thank you for your kind, encouraging comment Rowena. I grew up with my mom (until I was 12 and she passed,) with limited, almost zero, contact with my dad. I think that is why I have been doing almost anything for my daughter to have a relationship with her dad (moved from my country, left my friends/family, and been the one driving her to see her dad those few times he’s been able to make time for her so far..) She has a good dad, he’s just been busy dealing with himself. Now when he got things more figured out, this is the only right thing to do. I don’t really think it is a choice for me. I told my daughter last night that I’ve found a job, and a place in Vegas. She was SO HAPPY. I feel very good about this. Thank you!
